The Voice of Insurance podcast: How Parametric Will Fix Commercial Insurance

On 15 March, Descartes Underwriting’s CEO & Co-Founder, Tanguy Touffut, and Head of Business Development, Violaine Raybaud, featured the podcast ‘The Voice of Insurance’. With host Mark Geoghegan, Tanguy and Violaine explored various topics including Descartes’ mission, future ambitions, and parametric insurance under the theme ‘How Parametric Will Fix Commercial Insurance’.

Tanguy opened the discussion by explaining the inception of Descartes that tackles two challenges: to innovate insurance in the face of climate change and to offer adequate cover to corporates against natural events as an insurer. Violaine emphasized the transparency and objectiveness of parametric insurance in the sense that Descartes uses an average of 1 million times more data than a traditional insurer through all the sources of data, such as satellite and radar, from third party agencies.

Being able to provide$200 million per contract, which is among the largest capacities in the market, Descartes is able to model the full range of natural events and adjust the policies to clients’ specific needs and budgets. Through its data-driven approach, Descartes continues growing on its trajectory towards becoming the leading corporate insurer, worldwide.
